Fall Decor Around My Home

I just love this time of the year........ the chill in the air, fall festivals, mums blooming and the beautiful fall colors. If I had to choose, I would prefer to decorate for fall before any of the other holidays.  Not only is it my most favorite season, there is just something about the simplicity and beauty of fall decor that just speaks to me.

The approach to welcoming fall into our home seems effortless, yet heartfelt with each leaf and apple that I have set out.

Or gentle reminders of  how acorns and pumpkins are gifts from nature and reminds us that we should consider natural elements more often in our décor....not just for fall.

Fall is a favorite time of the year to sit on the front porch, sipping a hot drink cuddled under a blanket.....while bug free.

Fall gives us that one last chance to display beautiful fresh flowers in our home before cold weather sets in and we will have to wait until the spring..........

or use faux flowers to get us by.....which ever comes first.

Enjoy this beautiful season of fall with beautiful color and flowers....fresh or faux.

Weekly Wow's

Happy Friday! I hope the weeks end has found  you well and happy. Although we have been generally happy around Top This Top That household this week , unfortunately we have not been so well. It appears that Mr. Strep Throat decided to pay my son a visit. Ummmm....next time, it's okay if you skip us.... Really it is. Apparently strep is rampant right now, so do what you can to keep your household healthy.

No shortage of some amazing inspiration out there this week.

My pal Linda over at It All Started with Paint totally rocks the mason jar. How cute are these mummy jars.

Fabulous furniture transformation here

This was my niece Jessica's favorite movie....mine too. In fact we watched it together the very last time that I would see her.
What's your favorite movie?

If you saw my craft room.....you would know why I need inspiration like this from the Cottage Market.

We are on Fall Break next week so I am looking forward to spending time doing fun things with the kids. What do you have planned for the weekend?
Make it a great one!

PS- I hope you will stop by next week when I join up with some pretty amazing bloggers to bring you 2 days of Fall décor ideas for your home.

Grateful
To be inspired by others

Creepy Idea for the Black Burlap Wreath

I suppose if you pulled up to 0001 Cemetery Lane you might have a bit of nervous anxiety. Behind the tall dried grass, the black hearst parked in the driveway and Pugsley playing outside with Uncle Fester, you are greeted with a home filled with a family who are totally unaware of how frightening and bizarre they appear to others.

I mean what's so wrong with a life long friend who just so happens to be a hand named "Thing", a mustached Baby named Pubert and an Uncle who can illuminate a light bulb by putting it in his mouth?
About the only non-bizarre sight that you witness, would probably be the Black burlap wreath that is hanging on the doors.
Morticia would probably tell you she spent some time in her craft room with her daughter Wednesday, and they followed this tutorial on how to make the wreath.....while bonding.

She was going to make the spider wreath here but Gomez just happened to surprise her that day with some white and black roses. They adore each other deeply.

Besides Lurch is known to enjoy a good black spider or two for lunch.....especially ones with purple sparkly legs.
For my other creepy ideas for the black burlap wreath click here and here.

PS- Don't tell Morticia but did you know that black roses really aren't black, they are dyed to look that way..
PPS. Were you a fan of the Adams family?

Grateful for~
Fall break next week and time with my children

3 Looks ....... One Black Burlap Wreath

For the record I generally don't do creepy......  well, not until I kinda just accidentally stumbled upon this creation and realized "hey I bet I can do that in black too!" And although admittedly, I have gone a bit creepy crazy over my black burlap wreath, it was fun to create 3 different looks for Halloween with one simple black burlap wreath.

But before I attempt to creep you out with my Spider Wreath, here's some simple tips when spray painting burlap garland.

Any FLAT spray paint will do the job. I have tried several colors and they all seem to work. This burlap garland was actually green when I bought it.
Spray both sides of your burlap garland BEFORE assembling your wreath. It's more work but will give better results then if you spray your unpainted burlap after it is assembled.  Trust me, I know. I have done both ways.
Create a distance of about 5-6 inches from your burlap when you are spraying. Spraying to close , will over saturate the burlap and the fibers will look a bit wonky.

Ready for creep? And please don't panic, any of you spider phobic people..... the web is fake.

The spider web and the dangerous purple looking spider are from  the dollar store.

I topped it with a purple ribbon to match it's sparkly purple legs. Is there even a spider out there that has purple sparkly legs?

I sincerely apologize in advance if you see little black spiders with purple sparkly legs all day.
So what creeps you out?

Applescape Fall Mantle

I am not quite sure the local Mantle Society will award me for the most creative fall mantle this year.....

But that's totally fine with me, because I will probably win most original mantle (fingers crossed) since seeing I did a similar version of apples last year. This years version is slightly modified to include a just a few more leaves....... and more apples.

And in my acceptance speech as I stand before the thrones of mantle loving well wishers passing out apples, I will tell them........
If you love apples and brightly colored leaves and mums......do that.
Create a mantle with what you have on hand instead of buying new.
Stick with what you like.....even if it's year after year.
If it works for you and your fall home, why recreate it.Go with it.

And if I so choose to do apples again next year, the only change that I foresee is that I may have to change the price to .06 an apple (inflation ) ....but that's okay, I love apples.

PS- To see last years original Apple Mantle with a few less leaves and to see how I made the Apple Orchard sign click here.

Weekly Wow's

Happy Friday! I hope it's been a great week for you. It's been a quiet week around the Top This Top That household as we get ready to usher in the first day of fall this weekend. Fall happens to be a favorite season of mine and really popular with the family. Being big outdoor people, we make great use of our backyard fire pit for campfires, making s'mores and toasting marsh mellows. It's such wonderful family place for us and the occasional date night with my husband. So, if you want to find me on any given Saturday night, I am probably hanging out........ with this cutie.

Found a few wow's this week that were so amazing I had to share.

Speaking of s'mores, how about these pancakes here for breakfast. Oh my!

Amazing DIY coffee table here from Simplicity in The South

Beautiful Fall Table here

Another option for your fall door here

And I leave you with this sign that I just love here
