This is what I am doing today

July 31, 2014

Don't worry..... I am fine. It's been a couple of days and I didn't want you to think that I got swallowed up by a vortex of school supplies sitting on the dining room table.

How to Snaze up the Garage Steps...Simple Steps For Painting Steps

July 29, 2014

I am back from a week in Tennessee with the kids and..... I missed you. I was in a location that had no cellphone coverage ( only text) and limited internet. I take that back, I had to drive down the road to make a call and when I posted anything to instagram or facebook it took 2 hours to upload. Although as remote as it sounds, it was the ideal way to unwind and relax the last week before school starts.

I must admit, my garage had been looking a tad bit disgraceful for many months now.  Complete eyesore, as in the minute you pulled your car in, you would want to pull it back out. Seriously. If you don't believe me, ask my car.
So we did a few updates to tidy up the place like building some shelves to help with the organization and painting the walls, but one thing I did that completely changed the way I feel when walking through the door, was painting the stairs.

The Project of the Summer- Lake House

July 23, 2014

I have only done a few projects this summer which has been wonderful because honestly I have never felt more in touch with my kids, husband and household. If something was to get done, it was on "summer time"...... similar to, island time.  But there is one project that I have really been looking forward to since the summer began.......
Project Lake House

Summer Living Room

July 21, 2014

You should know....  I am not a very fancy person.... although once upon a time many years ago and certainly before kids, I may have been or pretended to be. In fact, I am the complete opposite of fancy. I can't remember the last time I put on a gown ..... my wedding? I have never pressed table or bed linens ....who's got time for that anyways and I prefer using whatever fork I pick up for my salad and main course...and it's usually the same one.

Summer Time Bliss

July 19, 2014

"I close my eyes
as to dream of this
a day of fun
a day of bliss
This is my sunshine that fills my day
This is the happy that wants to play

This is the vision of what summers should be
Carefree thoughts
 for you
 and
for me"

                                                - mom

Enjoy your blissful summer day!

Grateful~

How to Hang Wall Paper like a Rock Star... 5 Simple Tips Before You Get Started

July 16, 2014

Of all my DIY projects that I have done....wallpapering has not been one of them.  I guess it always seemed so difficult and time consuming, besides the visions of stripping paper in tiny little pieces off the walls, was enough to tell me not to even begin..... until I saw this paper from here and fell in paper love.

Monday Musings....new tile, pumpkins and no eggs yet

July 14, 2014

I found this tile at Home Depot on clearance a few months back and decided to do a few updates in the laundry room.  I need to cut and place a few more tiles around the electrical outlets ( one more unfinished project to add to the list)  and then I can show you what I have done to the space.

A few weeks back when I was ordering these for the front porch, I went ahead and ordered this 'cake plate'.  Ha. Not sure what size cake they eat, but doubtful any cake that I make will fit on it, so I am using it to hold my favorite candles instead. I should have known better when the price was $6.95. Still, super cute.

Getting ready to make a pineapple upside down cake for my husbands birthday... his favorite. Hmmm, I wonder if it will fit on that 'cake plate' ?

This year, I am growing pumpkins in my garden. Should be a lot of fun in the fall to have our own Pumpkin patch for the kids and their friends. If you want to grow them, they require a lot of space in the garden and if they are planted by July, should be ready to pick in the fall.

Remember these guys, they have have really grown...... No eggs yet.

Got any tidbits you want to share?

Have a great rest of the week!

Grateful~
Good rain for the garden...and the chickens

How to quench your thirst......Southern Style

July 9, 2014

Welcome to another installment of  'Oh My Word'  a monthly series where me and my southern gals team up to bring you some tips....Southern Style.

This month we are talking drinks and if you are visiting from Refresh Restyle and can walk a straight line, from her summer cocktail over to my porch...Welcome. Glad to have you.

I know this may come as a shock to you, but not every southerner is distilling whiskey or making moonshine in their backyards....only some of us.

Nor are we sipping on $3.69  Strawberry Hill Boone's Farm Wine from the local gas station on the front porch...... we are much more sophisticated then that...at times.
Besides, do they even sell that stuff anymore?

The real truth....... cause you need to know, is when we Southerners have had enough sweet tea, or have run out of sugar, our next beverage of choice is water. And not just any water.....water with lemon in it.

Other than the fact that water is so good for you and helps cleanse toxins from your body, it just tastes so good with lemon in it. But there are many other reasons you should put lemon in your water that you can read here. Make sure to wash your lemons before cutting them and placing them in your beverage.

And if you really want to impress your porch drinking water buddies....... put a few slices of lemon in your flower arrangement. You will have them thinking it is more awesome then awesome and have them saying 'awesomesauce' before they leave the porch.

Next up is another favorite Southern Lady and her favorite Southern drink- Daisy Mae Belle.  Little fact, I have a donkey named Daisy Mae.

What's your favorite Summer drink?
Cheers to an amazing summer!

Grateful~
That it always has a way of working out

Everyone needs a little green table...... and a giveaway from Glidden

July 7, 2014

When it comes to decorating, my family is very easy and cooperative. And up until now, they have left most of the decorating and color choices ....... along with the household cleaning, cooking and grocery shopping, all to me.. Lovely bunch they are.

But when it came time to make some changes to Lily's room, I wanted more than that. I wanted input. I wanted others to share in the decisions. I wanted her to love the choices that were being made..... after all, it is her room.  So I gave her full decision making rights on her little bedside table. We are starting small and working our way up. I thought a pop of color against the pink in the room, would be perfect complement to the room.

So with the wall paper sample in our hands, we headed to  The Home Depot to check out colors choices. After some mild "coaching" on why purple may not be the best choice, we found ourselves considering a few shades of green from the Glidden® color palette. Glidden makes it really easy to choose colors with their "simplified palette, which is especially important if choosing colors and making these decisions are new to you.  After an ice cream sundae meeting at the Dairy Queen, we had a winner. New Grass Green. See sample here.

So we took the table ( which was a table I had previously used in my living room), which lacked a bit of 'little girl personality' and covered it with 2 coats of Glidden Premium Interior latex paint that I purchased at my local Home Depot. She helped with a few strokes and left the rest to mom. This is after one coat of paint.

Immediately, I could see how proud she was of "her" color decision and how that little green table will act as a symbol for years to come, and provide her the confidence to make other decisions in her life.

I only wish every decision was going to be this easy. Speaking of easy and a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card,  leave me a comment below telling me what piece of furniture you have painted...or will paint, that provides inspiration for you.  Be sure to leave your email ( if I don't have it or you show up as a no reply) so there is a way to notify you if you are the lucky winner!

And don't forget to visit my Glidden Board on pinterest with my collection of inspiring pieces of painted furniture.  Good luck!

Keeping Room Changes

July 3, 2014

I never realized how painting the kitchen white, click here if you missed the reveal, would allow me to have so much fun infusing the space with all kinds of color.

I mean really, having my hot tea each morning reading my daily devotionals and surrounded by aqua blue and charteruse green just wasn't even in the plan....until I spotted this fun
indoor /outdoor rug from here. Love.

Truth is, this rug takes me out of my otherwise 'predictable' comfort zone. I think the hot pink rug that I put in the craft room here, gave me the gentle push to start having some fun with colorful rugs and pillows. More like who I think I am. Ha.

I bought these curtain panels from Ikea months ago for the breakfast room and thought I would continue the steady stream of aqua on the windows. Still working through if I want to have the long panels in this space or use the panels to have some shades made.
Speaking of Ikea, would you believe I purchased these chairs about ~20 years ago when I lived in Houston. They are as good as new, all these years later.

I picked up the fun green pillows from Hobby Lobby for less then what it cost me for lunch.  Ready for this.... $4.79. Seriously.
The blue pillows came from World Market... for the cost of dinner.

My beloved yard sale find table that I first shared here a few years ago, got a couple of coats of Nimbus Grey, which is the same color as the kitchen Island. And the pretty hydrangeas, courtesy of my garden.

Who knows, maybe the vibe of this room will last as long as those IKEA chairs, or I will just move on to some new colors....... cause that's just what us fun and colorful gals do.

What colors are you having fun with in your home these days?

I'll be taking a little break for the next few days to spend time with my family. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Happy 4th of July to all of my readers who will be celebrating our nations independence tomorrow. Be safe and have fun.
Talk to you next week!

June Highlights

July 1, 2014

Goodbye 85.8 degree temps, Hello 95.8 degrees....just like that. Welcome July.

Although we have some amazing things going on in July, it's not one of my fav's when it comes to the temperatures. Way too hot. When you walk from the house to the garage ( approximately 8 steps)  and sweat is already dripping from the forehead..... too hot.

Here's a few highlights from June, in case you missed any of it.

We are in the patriotic spirit around the house with my mantel here

and a fun tablescape here that I created out of .99 duct tape.

Enjoying my hot tea and cheerios here in our Summer breakfast room.

I am ready for you on the front porch here where I shared 5 tips every porch lover should have.

I turned an old plant stand and planter into a fun ice bucket. Perfect for those hot days outside.

and after a few long months, we finally finished the kitchen and revealed it here.

How was your month? Got any fun things planned....besides sweating?

Grateful~
For life's little surprises
