I'll Drink to That !

Full Disclosure- I did not drink all the wine bottles  from the corks that you are about to see in this post!  Well, maybe just a few.
I  wanted to make something out of my wine corks for some time now
I mean, I have a lot of corks ( remember- I didn't drink all that wine!) and was looking for a way to creatively use them
I had not just one bucket, but two just sitting around waiting for a project
I had seen some great looking cork boards and chalk boards and thought perhaps I could do a combination of both on the same board
It wasn't easy though, because I had lots of cork that I needed to use
Looking at my new board makes me think of all the wine that I did didn't drink.

Click here for a tutorial on how to drink make this combination chalk/bulletin board. Cheers!

Creating Easy Office Art

Things are progressing in my office makeover , just not as fast I would like. Probably because I can't get up from my beautiful new chair that I got from World Market.
It's intended as a dining chair, but makes the perfect accent chair in my office. I have been eying this chair for some time in Ballard's catalog but was pleasantly surprised to see it priced ~$200 less at World Market. I showed you my fabric choices here,  and I was able to finish a small pillow for the chair.
Once I did get off the chair, I was also able to make some super easy wall art with the fabric that I had left over.

Supplies you will need to make this easy art project:
  • Frame- I used 11x17
  • spray paint- I used satin nickle
  • cardboard back from the frame
  • fabric- dimensions 11X17
  • Spray adhesive
Step 1) This frame was taking up space in my craft room cabinet so I decided to use it. Remove the glass and spray your frame, in your color choice.

Step 2) cut your piece of fabric to the dimensions of your frame. My frame was 11x17.
Step 3) Use the spray adhesive to secure the fabric to the cardboard back of your frame. I sprayed the back of my fabric and smoothed down the fabric on the cardboard to remove any creases or wrinkles.
Step 4) Place your cardboard back into the frame

Step 5) Ready to hang and admire- while sitting in my chair of course!

The Dude Scores AGAIN!

As I  mentioned  here, my nephew just moved into his own place. Thinking the table that I am giving him may not be enough to get him started, I thought I would whip him up a few pillows for his couch and chair.  I used a  drop cloth and some stencils to create some cool pillows for his pad.

I took this picture envisioning how his space will look with the pillows and the table that I made for him.
I better hurry and send this stuff to him or I may just decide to keep it!
Come back next week when I will post a tutorial on how to make these drop cloth pillows.

What I wish I knew then, about my Pottery Barn Pails

Okay, raise your hand, how many of you have made that over priced purchase and then months later realized "I could have made that"? Good, I am not alone.
 This is that purchase.
Although I love them, I realize I  probably could have made these pails that I purchased from Pottery Barn about a year ago myself,
but I didn't.
I did however, save my girlfriend a few bucks with my version of the Pottery Barn pail that I made for her.
these cost a mere .99  for each pail, a can of spray paint
and the numbers 1,2,3

now that's a beautiful thing! Click here for the tutorial.

The Easiest Burlap Wreath You will ever make!

Dictionary Definition of Easy
a: causing or involving little difficulty or discomfort <within easy reach>
b: requiring or indicating little effort, thought or reflection

I just love the look of full, layered burlap wreaths. I have two of them hanging on my doors this season which I will show you this week. They are fun to embellish based on the time of year or you can just leave them alone and enjoy their beauty.
Supplies needed:
  • 16 inch metal wreath form- you can pick these up at any craft store
  •  4 inch burlap- for this wreath I used about 12 yards ( one roll is 10 yards). You can pick this up at any craft store.
  • scissors
  • embellishments- optional
Begin by looping burlap through the wire form. I  looped my burlap through the top, middle and outer rims.
To create the fullness, I looped the burlap through the rims and pushed everything together. Continue this process around the metal form.
When you are done, you will want to go back and "fluff out" any twisted loops and move any loops to conceal the metal frame.

I used jute to secure my bunny and flowers to the wreath. The jute blends in with the burlap and is a good concealer. You can also use wire.
Now you know what easy means!

The Next Phase of My Office and Fabric choices

A few weeks back I mentioned how I was being color challenged in choosing a color for my office. You can read about that here. Happy to say that the room in now painted with a happy shade of gray. And I couldn't be more thrilled!
Now that the room is painted, the next thing on the list is deciding what wall treatment to use on the built-in shelves in the office.
Since I was undecided at this point on a second color to bring into my office, I decided to stencil using the same color I chose for my walls called Burnished Clay from Behr.Although it's name says clay, it is every bit gray.
I have always loved the look of stencils but have never worked with them in my home. I decided to use the Morrocean Dream from Cutting Edge Stencils. First I prepped the book shelves using  a color called White Wheat from Porter Paint. This is the same color that I used on the trim. It is a real pretty creamy white color.
I applied two coats of paint before I applied the stencil technique.
Working from the bottom up, I positioned the stencil and began to apply the Burnished Clay.
The trick with this particular stencil was lining everything up, which was not always easy. Although I consider myself a fairly decent painter, I am not sure that I agree with the skill level marked on the package. The package said that this was a "beginner" stencil, and because of the preciseness that was required for the design I think it might need to be reclassified.
Finished!

Overall, I am  pleased how the project turned out.  Using the gray  gives me more flexibility with introducing other colors in the room. Speaking of colors, last week I did find some fabric that I will use in the office. Although this combination is new and different to my overall style, I love the coral with the gray. It is fun and gives the calmness of the gray a  real kick.
I will use these fabrics to make a pillow, cover a lamp shade and make a slipcover for my desk chair. The slipcover is a "first" for me, so we will have to see what I end up sitting on!
My goal is to have this space completed in the next week or so.
It is one thing to have an unfinished project that you can't see, but sitting in the middle of one is another story!
