My Laundry BFF .....and a giveaway

Here’s the reality of my life and specifically of my laundry situation…I need all the help I can get.   I am not necessarily talking about putting the laundry in the washer machine and promptly moving it into the dryer, which of course would be super nice of you if you are offering, since there’s a few piles on the laundry room floor ready to go.  I am talking about help with getting my clothes clean.  And not from the occasional peanut butter and jelly sandwich smear, I am talking about from the Red Georgia Clay, and lots of it!
Unfortunately, red clay is inevitable and a fact of life if you live in Georgia, and it seems to intensify when you live in the country and have 3 active children and a husband who are forever outside…getting dirty.  Since there is no way I will stand in the way of my children appreciating the outdoors, I need to find help with getting the laundry clean.

Tide has always been my detergent of choice and now Tide Pods are my new laundry BFF.  I know that may sound silly, having a laundry BFF, but when you need as much help as I do, having a laundry BFF to support you is good.  I mean who wouldn’t want a BFF that cleans, fights those stains and brightens all in one.  Tide Pods does that.

I especially like that I do not have to measure and pour the detergent in the washer anymore.  My BFF is easy, just toss a pod in the load and start. This is a picture of my BFF.

Tide Pods strong and reliable stain removing power certainly helps with the stubborn clay stains and…the peanut butter and jelly smears.  Tide Pods is a detergent, stain remover and brightener in one. So even if some of those embedded clay stains do not come out, at least my children’s clothes will be brighter and clean!
If you are looking for a laundry BFF, I am willing to share information.......not do your laundry. You can click here for more information and how to purchase Tide Pods.
And if you leave me a comment below telling me any of your laundry tips, you will have a chance to win a $100 Visa card. That's it. Easy and clean...just like Tide Pods.

Good luck and have fun doing the laundry!
Grateful for~

Our Reading Preferences out here in the Country

When my husband and I moved to the 'middle of nowhere' Georgia, population 500, 12 years ago, having children was still a dream for us. Fast forward to today where my life has been blessed with 3 beautiful, slightly energetic, don’t eat enough vegetables, always barefoot children. My dream came true!
My oldest child is on his way to mastering chapter books…think Percy Jackson and Captain Underpants, and the twins are entering the Early Readers arena…think Frog Goes to School and Spot is Brown.
Although Country Living has its many perks, it also offers some slight  inconveniences as well…especially for my slightly energetic, don’t eat enough vegetables, always barefoot children. If the closest Piggly Wiggly is 30 minutes away, imagine how long it takes me to get to the closet library or bookstore.  It’s a day trip…at least.  Sure we have the annual school book fair and the quarterly Scholastic book orders, but my children prefer the freshness of a new tale over reading Purplecious or Ladybug Girl for the 100th time.
Because reading is critical to any child’s learning and development, we have spent a lot of time determining what would work best in our household and for our kids.  After researching several options that would provide my children the flexibility and freedom with reading, and for me the comfort of parental controls and to be able to track reading milestones, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite was by far the best solution.

Our current reading list looks something like this~ Kids Stanley and The Magic Lamp, Princess Ruby, Why Because I love You, The Monster That Ate My Socks, Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja, Diary of a 6th Grade Secret Agent, Dinosaurs-Fun Facts  Mine The Husband's Secret, Candlelight Christmas, Sycamore Row by John Grisham, Twelve Years A Slave- Looking forward to seeing the movie when I am done with the book. I wait in a car rider line at my kids' school for 45-60 mins each day. Me and my Kindle are tight!

A new feature called Kindle FreeTime lets me hand select books for my kids to read  and load right to their profiles. In addition,  Kindle FreeTime also gives me access to a progress report that will update how long my kids have read, the number of words they have looked up, rewards they have earned, and a list of all of the books they have finished.

I'd like to think that the Kindle FreeTime is kinda like a virtual librarian, teacher and parent all in one.  What really jazzes me up about FreeTime is that I can set daily time limits for the kids for reading books, and using apps. mYou can also limit TV shows and movies. This feature is perfect in our household because 'screentime allotments' are awarded for good behavior and now I don't need to set the stop clock or watch the clock. Freetime does it for me.
And with the holidays right around the corner, I can’t think of a better gift for your young reader to receive.  You can get more information on this amazing device by going to www.amazon.com/kindlepaperwhite.

But wait, your young reader isn't the only one who is going to be happy receiving his/her Kindle.  How would you like to win a $100 Amazon gift card?  For a chance to win, all’s you need to do is leave me a comment below, telling me why the Amazon Kindle would be great to have on your holiday gift list. That’s it. Easy, just like the Amazon Kindle.
Good luck!
 Grateful for~
Young eager readers in the family

My Thanksgiving Table.... a label and a giveaway

My Thanksgiving table decor this year is made possible courtesy of a label.  Yes ...  a label.  You know, the kind you print and stick.  I’ll  tell ya, the timing could not have been better to partner with Avery in their Personalize with Avery Labels program because, quite frankly, I had no idea what my general theme was going to be this year.... until I printed a label.

I know it all sounds crazy, that I could base this decision all on a label….but I did.  And today, I want to show you three ways I am incorporating the labels that I customized using Avery’s on-line tool into Thanksgiving.

When my guests sit down at the table to enjoy our traditional Thanksgiving dinner, my Thanksgiving place cards will greet them. To make them, I simply selected a template from the Thanksgiving holiday category, customized the message and then hit print on my computer.  I then cut a square out on white poster board and placed the label in the middle.   That was easy.

Who's hungry........let’s eat!

After we have completely stuffed ourselves, it is still likely that we will have leftovers.  Part of our tradition is to pack goodie bags for our guests to take home and enjoy….so it avoids more 'over eating' long after the guests have left.  This year I will be using the labels that I printed and attaching them to brown paper bags.  Although optional, it is just a nice little touch and dresses the bag up a bit.

Speaking of nice little touches, Thanksgiving generally kicks off the baking season for me and even though I can’t cook…..I can bake, or at least I think I can.  I tend to bake gifts for our neighbors, friends and teachers. This year I gathered up some old metal tins, gave them a fresh coat of spray paint and printed out some labels to attach to the top.  Another easy, creative, and delicious way to use a label.

Speaking of easy and delicious……. Don’t you just love Oreos dipped in chocolate? Well, I am giving away something just as good…….a $100 Visa gift card. I would love for you to have a chance to win. Just leave me a comment below giving me one creative way you use labels in your household.
That’s it...pretty sweet and easy.
And don’t forget to check out Avery on Pinterest for more inspiring ideas.

Are You Following Your Dreams?

Remember when you were little and blowing out your birthday candles, closing your eyes as tight as you could while making a wish? And in that minute of darkness and determination to not tell anyone what you wished for (or else it wouldn't come true), you saw those dreams come to life as you kept your eyes shut? Perhaps you saw that shiny new bicycle--the one with the big white basket with flowers all over it. Or maybe it was for a new best friend since your old one and her family moved to another state. Or better yet it was to be a princess. A princess that meets her prince charming and lives in a castle. A princess in a beautiful long blue dress.

Fast forward many years and several birthday cakes later, and our dreams begin to take shape. We are no longer a young child but an adult. Our dreams look different. We are now putting more thought and feeling into those treasured wishes. We start thinking about the circumstances and the price we must pay to live out those dreams. We start to have questions about those dreams. "What will it take? Do I have what I need? What if I fail? What if I succeed?"
And on the journey of life and our quest to fulfill our dreams, it's here that we find our voice, who we are, and what we want. Standing up for what you want and giving it all you got.

I always tell my kids that they don't always have to be the best at everything, just the best at trying. I also let them know that sometimes there are risks, sometimes there will be pain, sometimes we will need to do things that we are not good at or always comfortable doing, but these are the steps they must endure to reach those dreams. Dreams of a princess who meets her prince, lives in a castle and wears a long blue dress.
Watching Disney's The Little Mermaid gives my Princess Lily a chance to see how Ariel lived out her dream, how she found her voice, and how she found her prince. And although it is perfect for an aspiring princess, the movie is also perfect for the family as it reinforces the importance of following your dreams and not giving up on what you want. And what's even better is that The Little Mermaid will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and HD digital on October 1st. You can always visit the Disney site here for more information or to pre-order your own copy!
So tell me, how do you encourage your children (young or old) to follow their dreams?  Just leave me a comment below for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card and a Little Mermaid Diamond Edition Blu-ray Combo Pack!

PS--Do you think the handsome prince will like this princess, in her long blue dress, barefoot with dirty feet?

The Beach Trip of the Year....... the Jellyfish and a Giveaway

It was going to be the trip of the year. Plans were made, route was mapped, and bags were packed. Car was fully loaded, gas tank was full, dogs were brought to Doggie Daycare and we were on our way. Florida Coast here we come! It was the beach trip that my children had been looking forward to for 361 days.
Does this ever happen to you.........You checked your list several times, think you have everything you need, just to find out when you get to your final destination ......you don't.
Now I am not talking about the rad surf boards that my kids were going to be riding the waves on or the  99+ sunscreen that I slather all over the family to prevent that first day sunburn, or those cute Jack Roger sandals and the new sundress that I couldn't wait to wear with my sun kissed skin. See, I remembered all of that. It was on my list for the trip that I had planned all year.
What I didn't prepare for was the unexpected. The things that I couldn't have expected on that long awaited, 361 day anticipated Beach Vacation. Jellyfish. Yes, I said Jellyfish, and boy do they hurt. Did you know that a group of Jellyfish are referred to as a swarm or terror in the water? And that’s exactly what my son thought when he came in contact with them on our first day at the beach.
The picture above is my son before his Jellyfish encounter.
There are three things you should do when you are stung by Jellyfish. The first is to remain calm. This may be difficult if you are seven years old and have never been stung before. The second is to get out of the water. The third is to seek medical attention. Not knowing if this was a minor annoyance or life threatening emergency so we sought out medical care at a local Walgreens Healthcare Clinic. I was happy to see that this clinic was staffed with a knowledgeable physician assistant who treated my son with tenderness and care.  Luckily my son was not embedded with any stingers and they were able to administer the appropriate first aid to him and make him smile. Important outcomes to any mom  or dad.

So now that you know how to treat Jellyfish stings, here are a few things that you may not know about Walgreens Healthcare Clinics.
  • Walgreens Healthcare Clinics are staffed with licensed and board certified Nurse Practitioners who can help you manage and monitor a chronic condition such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma or high cholesterol.
  • Are staffed with physician assistants.
  •  Can serve as a regular checkpoint for health monitoring and care.
  •  Are conveniently located at a select Walgreens store near you.
  •  Are open 7 days a week with weekend and evening hours.
  •  Appointments are available, but walk-ins are fine.
  •  Accept most forms of insurance.
For regular health check-ins, click here to find a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic near you. Now with more services to help you manage your family's healthcare needs.
For a chance to win a $100 Walgreens Gift Card, just answer the question, "When could you use convenient healthcare?" in the comments below. That's it.
Good luck.....See you at the beach.

The Best Part Of Waking Up.......

So tell me, what's the best  part of your morning?
Would you say it’s hearing someone say good morning... or maybe it’s saying good morning to someone else?
Is it getting out of bed first to wake the family?
Is it to kiss your kids when they awake and open their eyes for the first time that day?
Is it hitting the snooze button over and over, before you realize you need to get up?
Maybe it is looking out the window to take a peek at the beautiful sunrise.
If you are into fitness, maybe it is a quick jog around the track, working out at the gym or a walk in the park with the family pet?
Perhaps it is reading the daily paper to catch up on the news.  It could be eating a healthy breakfast instead of that chocolate filled donut that you really want.

Or maybe if it’s a little like mine, it’s the chance for just a few precious moments to sit at my table and be thankful for another day... to read…to journal... to think about the day's busy schedule… am I picking the kids up from school or is my husband? ... Think about getting the dogs groomed… schedule a dentist appointment for the kids ... remind my husband to fix the front pasture fence… remembering to pick up the dry cleaning… stop at the store for some bananas and milk… all while drinking some coffee and listening to some music to get my day going.
My daily ritual that I just love, really helps to shape my day, and my family's. You know what they say, “If mama’s not happy, nobody’s happy.” And it shouldn’t surprise you that music and coffee are now helping to shape young peoples' lives as well by supporting musical creativity.
Even though my children are young I can see how music is shaping their lives just as my morning ritual shapes my day.  From the music we listen to while in the car, to music activities in their school, to the music and sounds in the house, it is all shaping their creativity for their future.
And I would say that’s a ritual worth having in their life.

Folgers asked me to write about my morning rituals and tell you all about the jingle contest they are having! Take a look at the Folgers® Jingle Contest Finalists, and listen to the tracks that earned them a spot in The Top 10. Cast your vote once every day through June 19th. You could win exciting prizes, like free Folgers Coffee, iTunes® gift cards, signed CDs from Gavin DeGraw, and even a $10,000 Grand Prize just for voting! Before you vote, follow the Road to the Jingle on Facebook to see how they traveled the U.S. to track down the Top 10 contestants! Remember, you can vote once a day through June 19th! Click here for official rules.

PS- This is a sponsored post from Folgers but the things I think about sitting at my table, drinking coffee  before I get my day going ....are just mine.
PPS- I really want that chocolate filled donut!
Grateful for~
Those few precious moments every morning

Can Organization Be Stylish....You Bet

So please tell me...
Can you pat your head and rub your belly at the same time?

Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Did "Gnarly" really mean very cool in the 1980s?

Do you count your chickens before they hatch?
Can you really have your cake and eat it too?
When saying good bye to others, do you find yourself saying, "Catch you on the flip side?"

The apple doesn't fall too far off the tree, does it?
Are you one who uses "groovy" to describe something
 so excellent?
Can you really gag someone with a spoon?

Do you think you can be organized and stylish at the same time?  Do you think that something that looks so good can take minutes to put together?

You bet... And my Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery Wall Manager proves that it is possible.

I have tried for a while to find something that fit the "look" of my office aesthetically, at the same time being completely functional. I mean who doesn't need a place to write notes, jot important events on a calendar, and store bills that need to get paid all while looking stylish?   Besides, being organized also helps me be productive. To achieve this stylish, organized and productive system, I started with an open frame that I painted to coordinate with the room.

Next, I cut a piece of foam board to fit inside the frame and covered it with fabric, using spray adhesive to secure to the foam board.

I placed my Martha Stewart Home Office Wall Manager - available in black and white, exclusively from Staples - on my board to determine the placement before securing it with the nails that were provided with the kit. There is also a built-in level to help keep things straight. This is perfect for people like me who tend to "eyeball" when hanging things on the wall. Is that you too?

As soon as the board went up, I immediately started to feel more organized because everything now has a place on the wall and is visible to me when sitting at my desk... and paying bills.

Oh and for the record... the grass is only greener on the other side if it gets more water and fertilizer.
